SOUTH BLACK SEA COAST - (South-Eastern Region)To the south, the coast is flatter and wilder, with the thick forests of the Strandzha mountain contrasting breathtakingly with hundreds of cozy beaches stretching between the jutty rocks of the mountain. Settlements here are small and picturesque. The most beloved ones for its unique architecture and ancient spirit are Sozopol and Nessebar Narrow cobblestone lanes, tiny squares and old-style wooden houses give them romantic atmosphere and look. More than two thousand years old Bourgas is a starting point for visiting the seaside resorts in the area. The vast tourist complex Sunny Beach and Sveti Vlas, the new holiday villages of Elenite, Dyuni, Tzarevo, Kiten, Primorsko compare favorably with villa settlements in Spain and the Mediterranean. Sunny Beach is the bigest Black sea resort. Sunny Beach (Slanchev Bryag) is situated 42 km north of Bourgas. The resort offers more than 120 hotels and two camping sites. The resort has tennis-courts, swimming pools, bowling clubs and mini-golf playgrounds. It also offers opportunities to practice horse riding and all kinds of water sports with the help of instructors. The holiday city has a policlinic and several big shopping centers. It also has its own transport - a mini-train. The restaurants are attractive for their coziness, marvelous cuisine and show programs. Their prices are relatively high but the supply is rich in high-quality products. Nesebar is surely the most exotic place along the Bulgarian Black See coast. The small old town is situated on a beautiful peninsula, connected with the main land through a narrow road. The town was founded 3000 years ago by ancient Greek sailors. Kiten -The village of Kiten was founded in 1931 by fugitives from Greece and immigrants from the surrounding villages. Nowadays Kiten is a prosperous modern tourist village. The village is situated at the south end of the bay of Primorsko and lies 56 km. south from Bourgas. The north beach, that bears the name "Atliman" is very beautiful and calm. Obzor is situated 65 km south of Varna and 73km north of Bourgas with a long 6 km beach. Despite the convenient location it is surprisingly uncrowded even during the peak season. There are three camping sites with bungalows near the town and many private hotels at low prices. Primorsko is 52 km south of Bourgas and has two beaches – the one is more open and offers rough sea, which makes it treasured by surfers, while the other one is smaller and calmer. The town offers numerous hotels, rest houses and private lodgings at relatively low prices. The International Youth Center is situated only 1-2 km to the south of the town and represents a typical holiday city for young people with plenty of villas, bungalows, hotels, bars, discos, and various sports facilities. The area is arranged as a cultivated park in an old oak wood. The most popular nearby place is the river of Ropotamo, famous for the thick forest along its banks. The area is one of the famous natural reserves in Bulgaria with very rare plants.
